Medicine Interview Program

Welcome to ACE’s 2023 Medicine Interview Program

Preparing for University Medicine Interviews can be a daunting task, and with the added pressure of your HSC exams, this is the last thing you want to be worrying about. At ACE, we support our students to get fully prepared for their interviews through an immersive program of teaching seminars and mock interviews. Over the years we have refined the course to maximise your confidence and give you valuable insights into the interview process.

How the ACE Medicine Interview Program works

As part of gaining entry into many Medical Schools in Australia, you will need to be successful in at least one interview. These Interviews vary slightly across universities, however there are 2 main types that you will come across:

For universities such as UNSW and James Cook University, you should expect to face a Semi-Structured Interview or “SSI”

For universities such as WSU, CSU and University of Newcastle, you can expect to participate in a Multiple Mini Interviews, or “MMI”, style of interview

How will ACE help me to prepare for these interviews?

Part 1: THE TEACHING COURSE

Our teaching course is designed to apply to all students seeking entry to Medicine, regardless of the universities you are applying to. This component of the course prepares students with an understanding of how Medicine Interviews are conducted and starts to build and refine how you can formulate unique and high quality responses to commonly asked interview questions. To best assist students for their interviews, our teaching program will encompass the following components:

Navigating MMI and SSI-style Interviews

Students will attend a two-day teaching workshop for guidance on their MMI-style and SSI-style Interviews. These are taught by experienced tutors who have been through the interview process themselves, and will help students hone in their skills in formulating high quality responses to any interview question.

Students will receive a workbook which aids them to formulate approaches to answering station-based and personal interview questions.

The workshop each day will be 6.5 hours from 10am – 4:30pm

BONUS: Interview Experience Seminars – University Specific

If you are eager and interested in learning about what each university may put you against in this year’s interviews, these seminars are perfect for you!

To best prepare you for what awaits, our team will be sharing our thoughts and experiences of our interviews from different Universities.

These seminars are an exclusive opportunity for ACE MIP Students - All booking in students will be notified of times and dates as soon as they are scheduled.

Part 2. THE MOCK INTERVIEW COURSE

ACE’s Mock Interview Course puts students through a series of interviews with Final Year Medical Students and Junior Doctors. This process simulates the university interview experience, testing your interview skills and providing the opportunity to receive comprehensive feedback on how you present to your interviewers.

This exposure to real life interviews and the opportunity to refine your skills and ease your nerves allows students to perform at their absolute best in their University Interviews.

Multiple mini-interviews (MMIs)- CSU, WSU and University of Newcastle

Each 3 hour session features 10 face-to-face interview stations, each offering a simulation of different university interview questions.

Dates: TBD

We offer 3 sessions per day, with limited spots available per session.

Semi-Structured Interviews (SSIs)- UNSW and JCU

Students are able to select which university style they would like to interview for. Each interview will be 30 minutes long, followed by 15 minutes of feedback.

Dates: TBD

We offer 6 sessions per day, with limited spots available per session.
